Black Cake Hulu TV Series Sets Premiere Date

Hulu has announced Black Cake, a new drama series will premiere on November 1, 2023. The TV show is based on the best-selling novel by Charmaine Wilkerson and will include a cast of: Mia Isaac, Lashay Anderson, Faith Alabi, Ahmed Elhaj, Glynn Turman, Sonita Henry, Adrienne Warren, Simon Wan, Chipo Chung and Ashley Thomas.
The book was optioned by Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment in association with Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Films and will stream on Hulu. Both Aaron Kaplan and Oprah Winfrey are executive producers on the series, with screenwriter, Marissa Jo Cerar, serving as showrunner.
Black Cake is a family drama wrapped in a murder mystery with a diverse cast of characters in a global setting. The story takes place in Jamaica, Rome, Scotland, England and Southern California.
In the late 1960s, a runaway bride named Covey disappears into the surf off the coast of Jamaica and is feared drowned or a fugitive on the run for her husband’s murder. Fifty years later in California, Eleanor Bennett, a widow in her 60s, loses her battle with cancer, leaving her two estranged children a flash drive that holds previously untold stories of her journey from the Caribbean to America. These stories, narrated by Eleanor, shock her children and challenge everything they thought they knew about their family’s origin.
