We’re thrilled to be sharing the news that Jen Carney’s The Accidental Diary of B.U.G  is the winner of the 7-9 years category in the 2021-22 Spark! School Book Awards, which was voted for by children.

The Accidental Diary of B.U.G was published in April 2021 and selected as a Bookseller ‘One to Watch’. In it we follow the laugh-out-loud adventures of Billie Upton Green (yes, yes, that’s the BUG bit, move on) as she takes the new girl at school under her wing.

The Spark! School Book Awards take place in schools in the London boroughs of Kingston and Richmond with the intention of developing pupils’ and teachers’ knowledge of quality literature and authors. Panellists look for diversity, accessibility, humour, and heart as part of the shortlist criteria, after which children in participating schools read and vote for the shortlisted books. There are four categories:

Ages 3-5: Picture Fiction

Ages 6-11: Picture Fiction

Ages 7-9: Fiction

Ages 9-11: Fiction

Congratulations, Jen, on your well-deserved win in the 7-9 years category, we are so proud!
