With news just in from the TV & Film industry, the screenplay for Annie Ward’s Beautiful Bad is due to be adapted by acclaimed writer, Gina Welsh.

Gina’s work is hugely popular in Hollywood, having accrued an impressive backlog of productions including the TV series FeudShe was also the brains behind Castle Rock (2018), a fantasy/horror series based on the novels by Stephen King.

Industry leader Sue Kroll will produce through her Kroll & Co. Entertainment banner, a Warner Bros. based production that champions and preserves the essential artistic vision of each project. Kroll is hugely influential in the film business: she has worked alongside a several A List actors, and is behind the upcoming adaptation of Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch, starring Nicole Kidman and Ansel Elgort. Stephen Spielberg has described as ‘one of the most inspired minds in the industry’

Sue Kroll said of the project:  “From the very first pages of Beautiful Bad I was completely hooked… On the one hand, the novel carries the suspense of a truly unpredictable psychological thriller – it kept me guessing to the very end. Alongside that intrigue, however, is also a poignant and heartbreaking love story between the closest of friends.”

Annie Ward added: “The first time I spoke with Sue Kroll was like being reunited with a dear friend who understands. It was not just her passion for the overall project but also her compassion for my characters that made me realise her vision was uncannily in sync with what I had dared to dream… I’m deeply grateful for the fact that Sue Kroll and Warner Bros. found me and Beautiful Bad.”

After a competitive seven-way auction, the highly sought-after original novel sold to Quercus (UK) and HarperCollins (US), has sold into 14 other territories, and has been widely praised in a Publisher’s Weekly article.

Beautiful Bad will publish in the UK and the US next month.
