We are thrilled to announce the launch of a new 6-month paid internship scheme, open to candidates from underrepresented groups in publishing, and designed to be the perfect start to a career in the industry.

We will provide training in every aspect of the agency, from talent spotting, editing and selling a manuscript, to international rights, book to screen adaptations and general office management – with everything in between!

The name of the New Draft Internship Scheme comes from a real desire at the MM Agency to help change the current narrative in publishing, and provide an entry route into an industry that is closed off for many. Our ultimate aim is to equip candidates for future roles that will help shape the publishing landscape.

As well as being from a group underrepresented in publishing, the successful candidate will be organised, digitally smart and be able to adapt their communication skills to different platforms. They will be flexible, proactive and with an ability to think methodically and creatively. All candidates should be able to demonstrate a keen knowledge of current market trends, and an ideal candidate will be committed to working in publishing for the long term, with an ambition to become a future leader in the industry.

To apply, please send the following, addressed to Giles Milburn, to jobs[at]madeleinemilburn[dot]com no later than 5th January 2022:

–  A covering letter which details how you meet the requirements above.

– Five books you have enjoyed in 2021 and why (approx. 100 words per book).

Please note that the application does not require a CV  and must include ‘New Draft Internship’ in the subject line of your email.

We consider under-represented groups in publishing to include, among others, candidates who are BAME, neurodiverse, disabled or LGBTQI+, alongside individuals from low-income backgrounds.

We are aiming for the internship to start towards the end of January  (precise date TBC’d), and we are pleased to offer a pro rata training salary of £20,111 p/a. As so much of the role will demand close supervision and training, it will be based at our office in Clapham, South London.
