The Echo Killing by Christi Daugherty is published in the US today by St Martin’s Press/Minotaur.

The book has already won a legion of fans including New York Times bestselling author Laura Childs who referred to it as “excruciatingly suspenseful” and Linda Castillo who described it as “a taut, atmospheric thriller.”

Ruth Ware, the bestselling author of In a Dark Dark Wood was ‘won over utterly [by The Echo Killing], from its lush southern setting, to the determined, vulnerable Harper and her dogged search for the truth.”

Similarly, Alex Lake, bestselling author of After Anna had high hopes from the first page, which were soon met and then wildly exceeded. Simply fantastic.”

As a newspaper reporter, Daugherty began covering murders at the age of 22 in cities such as Savannah and New Orleans. The Echo Killing, the tense and atmospheric first book in a series featuring Savannah-based crime reporter Harper McClain, therefore sees Daugherty return to her roots after writing the international bestselling Night School young adult series under the name CJ Daugherty. The Washington Post were quick to praise the authenticity of her portrayal of crime reporting and the newspaper industry at large: “She nails the newsroom culture, from the humorous banter to the serious work, and shows how layoffs and cutbacks have affected the way journalists cover their community.”
