Stripes Publishing has bought The Boy I Am, a “bold and arresting” YA novel, by debut author Kathryn L. Kettle.
The Boy I Am is a fast-paced speculative fiction thriller for young adults, and is told from the perspective of sixteen-year-old Jude, who grows up in ‘The House of Boys’. As the story unfolds, Jude must charm his way into the corrupt Chancellor’s affections, so that he can assassinate her.
Alice Sutherland-Hawes agreed the deal with Commissioning Editor Katie Jennings.
Jennings expressed her excitement for the debut and said: “Kettle’s audacious and evocative writing packs a huge punch, and we’re thrilled to be publishing such an exciting debut voice. Jude’s journey as he starts to question everything he has ever known will stay with readers long after the final page. With her flair for the dazzling set piece and the killer plot twist, Kettle is a YA superstar in the making.”
Katie Jennings acquired the book, which Stripes will publish in 2020 along with a sequel scheduled in 2021.
