It’s been a fantastic week for Gail Honeyman.
The special Hardback edition of Eleanor Oliphant hit the shelves in Waterstones this week, and we can’t get enough of it.
The winners of the Books Are My Bag Awards were announced last night, and Gail Honeyman “bagged” the Readers Choice Award for her outstanding novel, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. The Books Are My Bag Readers Awards are the only book awards curated by bookshops and voted for by book lovers. What makes the achievement all the more remarkable is that there are no nominations, so readers can vote for any book that they feel is worthy of the prize; this is truly special prize therefore, and it as a massive accolade for Eleanor.
Gail has been gaining gongs overseas as well. Eleanor Oliphant was the winner of the “Premio Amo Questo Libro” (I Love This Book Prize) sponsored by major Italian booksellers, Giunti al Punto. Her book won in the Awards’ inaugural year. It also shot to the top of the Lithuanian charts as soon as it published there in October.
This week, Eleanor Oliphant ranked at #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, under Heather Morris’ The Tattoist of Auschwitz. The book continues to do incredibly well on home turf, too, with 750,000 copies sold in the UK last week, reaching No. 5 in the Sunday Times bestseller list.
Gail has now shifted more than hit 1.5 million copies across all formats in the UK, and has been sold into 43 territories, taking both Gail and Eleanor well and truly global.
