What a year it’s been for Gail Honeyman’s novel, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine.
We couldn’t be prouder to announce that last night Gail was presented with yet another award, winning the Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards.
Gail was shortlisted for the award alongside the likes of Marian Keyes, Jojo Moyes, Graham Norton and Robert Harris – all long established authors; but the debut came out on top.
If this wasn’t accolade enough, Eleanor Oliphant was last week announced the winner of the the Readers Choice Award at the Books Are My Bag Awards – the only book awards curated by bookshops and voted for by book lovers. There are no nominations, so readers can vote for any book that they feel is worthy of the prize.
She received high praise overseas as well last week, winning the “Premio Amo Questo Libro” (I Love This Book Prize) sponsored by major Italian booksellers, Giunti al Punto. Her book won in the Awards’ inaugural year.
the Costa First Novel Award, the Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards, the Readers’ Choice Award at the Books Are My Bag Awards 2018, the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award, the Audio Production Awards, the Waverton Good Read Award, three prizes at the British Book Awards – Overall Book of the Year, Fiction Debut of the Year, and Marketing Strategy for the Year, and was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction. Incredibly, it was ranked the 22nd bestselling general fiction book since accurate records began by the Bookseller, and was the 19th bestselling book of the last decade (2010 – 2019). Reese Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine is set to produce this astonishing debut, alongside production giant MGM Studios.
To date, Eleanor Oliphant has sold over 1.5 million copies.
