We are thrilled to share that our internationally bestselling author, Fiona Valpy, was invited to attend the Marrakech English Book Festival to discuss her book The Storyteller of Casablanca for a conversation on Dual timeline fiction: contrast, congruences and connections.
The MEBF is a celebration of Marrakech and Morocco as an inspiration for all genres of books published in the English language. The festival comprises of a series of events, ranging from discussions and interviews with invited authors, children’s book events (including exhibitions, readings, and illustration workshops) and was held over three days on the weekend of 17th to 19th January.
Fiona’s book The Storyteller of Casablanca is an evocative dual timeline narrative split between Morocco, 1941, and seventy years after, exploring how a strange new city offers a young girl a chance to turn her tragedy into hope.
Fiona said: “I was delighted to be asked to present a session at the Marrakech English Book Festival, talking about The Storyteller of Casablanca. When I wrote the book, (during lockdown), little did I dream how it would open up new horizons for me. It’s been a great joy to visit Morocco and meet authors and passionate readers alike there, coming away with many new friends and more invitations to return again soon for literary events and book signings. One of the biggest thrills, though, has to be seeing my book – alongside other titles from the festival – for sale in the souk! That truly felt like the greatest honour of all.”
