We’re thrilled to wrap up the final week of spooky season by celebrating the Scholastic publication of Phantom Hearts, a sapphic graphic novel written by Rosie Talbot, which is wonderfully illustrated by Sarah Maxwell.
Underneath the carefully crafted façade of popular sixteen-year-old Malia is her struggle with anxiety. She is thrown into a further emotional spiral when a school bus accident kills her fellow classmates. When Malia meets the local mechanic’s cute daughter, Keezy, the two begin to question the motive for the crash. upon uncovering secrets, Malia starts seeing ghosts wherever she goes. How will Malia find the chance to flirt with Keezy while pursued by restless spirits? Is there something her dead classmates not want her to discover? And will Malia ever find the courage to confess her feelings to Keezy?
Rosie is also the author of the haunting duology, Sixteen Souls and Twelve Bones. She writes contemporary fantasy and horror queer stories for Young Adults and Adults.
