Having been nominated for the Carnegie Medal and longlisted for the Branford Boase Award, Emily is well-known for her poetic style and exploration of real-life issues with a warm and empathetic hand. Upon the release of her YA novel, Notes on My Family (Everything with Words) in 2018, she was praised as “exceptional” in the Sunday Times, and selected for their children’s book of the week.

Emily Critchley studied Creative Writing at London Metropolitan University and is currently completing her MA in Creative Writing at Birkbeck, University of London. She has worked both in interior design and as a bookseller in Bloomsbury and Hampstead. Notes on My Family, Emily’s debut novel, was long-listed for the Branford Boase award, shortlisted for the Bristol Teen Book award, nominated for the Carnegie medal and featured as The Sunday Times children’s book of the week.
