The multi-hyphenate talent that is Michelle Elman will be releasing her second book, The Joy of Being Selfish: Why You Need Boundaries and How to Set Them, in February 2021.

UK & Commonwealth rights, in addition to exclusive Europe rights, were acquired by Executive Editor Isabel Wilkinson from Hayley Steed.

Michelle is already well known in her field, being an accredited life coach, activist and influencer who has featured in numerous publications. She recently appeared on Elaine Chong’s  BBC docu-series, Being British East Asian, to discuss body image and the pressure to be thin in many East Asian communities. Her new book will provide readers with step-by-step guidance on how to create and uphold healthy boundaries, rid their lives of drama and toxic relationships, and love and respect themselves for a happier life.

Is your friendship group constantly filled with drama? Does your boss make constant unreasonable demands? Do you find yourself saying “yes” to people and events to keep those around you happy? Do you often find yourself emotionally exhausted and physically drained?

If so, you need a strong dose of boundaries.

It’s time to discover the joy being selfish. Putting the needs of everyone around us before our own is ingrained in us from a young age. Often, this leaves us with little time or energy for much-need self-love and self-care, and to figure out who we truly are and what we really want.

Life coach and influencer ‘@scarrednotscared’ Michelle Elman is here to teach you about reclaiming your life through the art of boundaries. The practical side of self-love, creating and upholding strong boundaries will teach others how to treat you, rid your life of drama and toxic relationships and allow you to love yourself and others in the best way you can.

Michelle commented: “I am so grateful to everyone at Welbeck for giving me this opportunity to spread a message that I believe the world needs! ‘Boundaries’ has become somewhat of a buzzword this year but what does it actually take to both set and hold them? Self-care is something everyone is an advocate of but when are we going to recognise that in order to create time and energy for ourselves, there needs to be reprioritisation of self where we challenge the negative associations with selfishness and that time spent alone is never time wasted. I am hoping this book will be the toolkit people need to do the work, enhance their communication and reap the rewards of standing up for themselves.”

Wilkinson enthused: “I am thrilled to be working with Michelle on her essential, empowering and inspiring new book. Michelle’s followers will know that she is the queen of boundaries, and there is no better author to guide them on how to revolutionise their lives by embracing the joy of being selfish!”
