It’s been a brilliant week for our children’s authors this week.

The CILIP Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Children’s Book Awards 2019 nominations have been announced, and our wonderful illustrator Poonam Mistry and bestselling YA author Holly Bourne are in the running.

Poonam’s first children’s book, You’re Safe With Me has been nominated for the CILIP Greenaway Medal. Poonam is continuing her partnership with author, Chitra Soundar, and has just published her second book, You’re Snug With Me, featuring equally gorgeous illustrations.

Holly Bourne’s insightful novel focusing on teenage mental health, Are We All Lemmings and Snowflakes has also been nominated at the awards for the CILIP Carnegie Medal. The shortlist will be announced in March 2019, and we’re keeping everything crossed for both of them.

Holly’s debut adult novel, How Do You Like Me Now? also received some brilliant publicity this week:

Author, presenter and actress, Giovanna Fletcher named How Do You Like Me Now? as “one of [her] favourite books this year”.

Still on children’s authors, Samuel Pollen’s debut novel, The Year I Didn’t Eat – a novel about teenage male anorexia, has received a starred review from Kirkus Reviews – a fantastic achievement for a debut author. It was called a “raw and real portrayal of anorexia from a group often left out of the conversation”.

Moving on to adult authors, it’s been a fantastic couple of weeks for Mel Sherratt, who has reigned at the top of the Bookseller‘s ‘Heatseekers Fiction’ list for two weeks running with her crime novel, Hush Hush.

 

 

 

 

Mel also received publicity in the Crime section of The Times, where Hush Hush was featured alongside novels from acclaimed crime writers such as Ian Rankin, Stephen Booth and Michael Connelly. They wrote: “Allendale, intelligent and sensitive, is a welcome addition to the fast-growing band of impressive women detectives entering crime fiction.” Congratulations, Mel.

Rights to acclaimed historian Hayley Nolan’s explosive expose on the “shocking censorship” of Anne Boleyn have gone to Amazon Publishing. Anne Boleyn: 500 Years of Lies will be published in September 2019, and the book is the latest addition to Amazon’s ever-expanding non-fiction list, Little A.

German rights to Beth Morrey’s The Love Story Of Missy Carmichael have gone to Droemer Knaur.

Spanish audio rights to Christi Daugherty’s The Echo Killing have gone to HarperCollins Iberica.

Greek rights to Teresa Driscoll’s The Friend have gone to Dioptra.

Serbian rights to Annie Ward’s Beautiful Bad have gone to Vulkan.

Italian rights to Fiona Barton’s The Suspect have gone to to Einaudi

Korean rights to Clare Pooley’s The Authenticity Project have gone to Munhakdongne, which brings it to 29 territories overall.
