The Elopement, the next novel from acclaimed historical fiction author, Tracy Rees, has been acquired by Pan Macmillan’s Publishing Director Gillian Green.

The Elopement is the spellbinding story of an illicit affair which shocks society, when famed beauty, Rowena Blythe, falls for the charms of a penniless artist. While it is loosely linked to Tracy’s previous novel, The Rose Garden, it is also a standalone title.

The Rose Garden, was Waterstones Welsh Book of the Month in September 2021. Tracy Rees was also the first winner of the Richard and Judy ‘Search for a Bestseller’ competition and won the Love Stories Best Historical Read award. She was also shortlisted for the RNA Epic Romantic Novel of the Year.

Pan Macmillan will publish in Paperback in Spring 2023 with a library hardback in Autumn 2022.

Gillian Green says: “We’re thrilled to be publishing Tracy’s brilliant new novel, The Elopement here at Pan Mac. Tracy is such a gifted writer with a natural talent for telling immaculately researched, escapist historical stories which totally immerse the reader in the world of her protagonists. She offers a wonderful insight into life for women in the Victorian era which both informs and delights readers.”

Tracy Rees adds: “After the glorious job that Pan Macmillan did publishing The Rose Garden, I was massively keen to work with them again and delighted when we signed the deal for The Elopement. Gillian is a clever, sensitive editor and Hayley is my dream agent so working with them, and seeing the book come to life, is an utter pleasure. I can’t wait for readers to discover The Elopement.”

Hayley Steed comments: “I’m so delighted to be working with Tracy and Gillian on The Elopement. I’ve long admired Tracy’s writing and am so excited to be part of the next step in her journey with this rich and glorious novel of forbidden love and societal scandal.”
