We are thrilled that UK & Commonwealth rights to Good Girls Die First, Kathryn Foxfield’s chilling debut YA novel, have been snapped up by Scholastic.

Blackmail lures sixteen-year-old Ava to the derelict carnival on Portgrave Pier. She is one of ten teenagers, all with secrets they intend to protect whatever the cost. When a storm cuts them off from the real world and from their morals, teenagers start dying as secrets get revealed. As they start to turn on each other, Ava will have to face up to the secret that brought her to the pier, and decide how far she’s willing to go to survive.

Fiction Publisher Lauren Fortune acquired UK & Commonwealth rights from Chloe Seager.

Lauren said: “Good Girls Die First takes all the best elements of classic 90s film and book brands and brings them SCREAMING into 2020. It’s the most entertaining YA I’ve read in years – creepily atmospheric, page-turning, dynamite plotting, characters-you-love-to-hate and a whiplash pace. It’s a genius hybrid of thriller and horror; a wild ride of a read. As soon as I gulped down the manuscript on submission I knew this was a must-have acquisition for our very selective, stellar YA list.”

Foxfield added: “Working with Lauren and Scholastic on Good Girls Die First is a dream come true, and wouldn’t have happened with the support and enthusiasm of my agent, Chloe Seager. I’m so excited to transport my readers to creepy Portgrave Pier and hopefully leave a few of them sleeping with the light on.”

Chloe said: “I was absorbed by the voice and atmosphere of this book from the very first page. Kathryn’s ability to write compelling and flawed characters, and keep the pages turning fast, is second to none. I’m thrilled this special debut found the perfect home with Scholastic.”

Scholastic will launch in July as a lead YA title and we could not be more excited to see it hit the shelves. Rights have already been pre-empted by Newton Compton in Italy and Fischer in Germany. Huge congratulations, Kathryn!
