We are thrilled for Pyae Moe Thet War, who has closed an excellent deal with US publisher Catapult for her collection of essays, You’ve Changed, set to be published in September 2022.

North American rights to the book were sold to Megha Majumdar at Catapult in a deal brokered by Hayley Steed.  The collection offers profound insight into how Pyae Moe Thet War – who goes by Pyae Pyae – came of age as a young woman in very rare circumstances.

Having grown up in Myanmar and moving to the US and then the UK as a lone adolescent, she takes her readers on an intimate journey, processing the intricacies of her identity whilst caught between two very different cultures.  As she navigates different relationships – be they romantic, familial, social or professional – she explores, and attempts to embrace, self-acceptance.

I once thought I knew everything I needed to know about how to be a good Myanmar daughter and partner and woman, and the things I didn’t know, my elders would teach me as I got older.

It wasn’t until I found myself thousands of miles away from everything and everyone I’d grown up with, that I began to establish a sense of self that was entirely on my own terms, and that was honest and strong enough to withstand all of the geographical and cultural changes that tested it.

Pyae Moe Thet War was born and raised in Yangon, Myanmar where she lived for the first sixteen years of her life before moving abroad for university. She holds a BA in Literary Studies and Creative Writing from Bard College at Simon’s Rock, an MA in English from UCL and an MA in Creative Writing from UEA. She works as a freelance writer and editor and currently resides in Yangon.

The MM Agency is so excited for Pyae Pyae, and can’t wait to see this book out in the world – it’s sure to be a must-read.
