We are over the moon to announce the publication of our first picture book.
Leading the way in this momentous moment for the agency is illustrator Poonam Mistry , who has continued her partnership with writer Chitra Soundar with their new book, You’re Snug With Me.
Published by Lantana today, You’re Snug With Me follows on from the success of their award-winning first book, You’re Safe With Me – selected as book of the month by The Guardian and the three-star winner of The Early Years Awards 2018.
You’re Snug With Me promises to be just as poignant as its predecessor, following the story of two bear cubs…
At the start of winter, two bear cubs are born, deep in their den in the frozen north.
“Mama, what lies beyond here?” they ask their mother.
“‘Above us is a land of ice and snow.”
“What lies beyond the ice and snow?” they ask.
“Beyond the snow is the ocean, full of ice from long ago.”
And as the earth dances on her toes and the nights get longer, the little bear cubs learn from their mother the secrets of the earth and their place in it, while their Mama whispers, “You’re snug with me”.
From the acclaimed picture-book partnership of Poonam Mistry and Chitra Soundar, comes You’re Snug With Me, a lyrical bedtime tale with charming illustrations.
Poonam Mistry is a freelance illustrator living in the UK with a degree in Graphic Design and Illustration at the University of Hertfordshire.
Her style incorporates her love of nature and her Indian roots and explores the relationships between pattern, shapes and colour. Poonam’s upbringing and childhood have heavily influenced her work, in particular being surrounded by Indian fabrics, paintings and ornaments. She loves folklore tales and stories of Hindu Gods and Goddesses and these have been a rich source of inspiration in a number of her illustrations.
Poonam creates her beautifully intricate images by hand using fine liners and then digitally alters them.
We couldn’t think of a more beautiful book to have as our first picture book, and are eager to see more of Poonam’s wonderful illustrations in the future.
