Ahead of the Bologna Book Fair, Penguin Random House Children’s triumphed Katja Kaine‘s debut novel, Blood of Gods and Girls. Puffin publisher, Carmen McCullough bought the rights from Literary Agent, Maddy Belton who specialises in SFF, in a major six-figure pre-empt.

Set to be published in March 2026, the YA is a Singapore-inspired feminist romantasy that centers around Nisha, who must win the respect of a matriarchal Golden Eagle warrior and navigate her feelings for a holy man who represents those she hates. The book will bring readers on an adventure dipping into Eastern culture and female friendships with romance and betrayal.

Katja is a half-Singaporean and half-German award-winning writer based in Yorkshire. She is the creator of the Novel Factory and the Novel Writing Roadmap software. Blood of Gods and Girls was longlisted for the 2023 Bath Children’s and WriteMentor unpublished novel awards.

We are so thrilled and cannot wait for this publication!
