Farshore has gobbled up a collection of spooky horror stories from 13 children’s authors, including Phill Hickes, curated by Jennifer Killick.

Sarah Levison, editorial director, acquired world rights to Read, Scream, Repeat for readers aged nine to 12. The stories encompass everything from a ghostly graveyard discovery to mysterious beasts of the deep, flesh-eating aliens that lurk in the shadows and a birthday party that you really don’t want an invitation to.

Authors include Aisha Bushby, J T Williams, current Waterstones Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho and Waterstones Prize winners Elle McNicoll and Sharna Jackson, alongside Kirsty Applebaum, Jasbinder Bilan, Rachel Delahaye, Kat Ellis, Phil Hickes, Polly Ho-Yen, Dan Smith and Killick herself.

Farshore said: “With Halloween being one of the fastest growing sectors across retail and the current surge in popularity of supernatural fiction, thanks to TV shows such as ‘Stranger Things’, Read, Scream, Repeat taps into everything that young readers are currently looking for this season – and is guaranteed to keep readers on the edge of their seat . . . or hiding behind it!”

Levison commented: “From the moment Jennifer’s proposal for Read, Scream, Repeat clawed its way into my inbox we knew it was something special. Jennifer is the absolute master of horror and sci-fi that is just the right side of scary for pre-teen readers. The stories may contain twists and turns and jump scares aplenty but there’s also lashings of hope, humour and heart. It’s been an absolute dream to work with Jennifer to bring together these incredible authors to create stories that will keep readers gripped and hooked from the very first page. We can’t wait for readers to be thrilled, chilled, delighted and terrified by Read, Scream, Repeat!”

Killick added: “I’ve been dreaming of creating a collection of terrifying horror stories for some time, so I am delighted that Read, Scream, Repeat has become a reality. I am incredibly excited by the group of contributing authors who have joined the Read, Scream, Repeat team – truly some of the most uniquely talented people writing for children at the moment. I can’t wait for young readers to revel in every jump scare and twist in these brilliant stories.”

Read, Scream, Repeat will publish in September 2023.
