What a wonderful way to end the week, with Liane-Louise Smith and Madeleine Milburn both being shortlisted for a British Book Award!

Liane-Louise, who is shortlisted for Rights Professional of the Year, is the only rights professional from a literary agency to be included in the category.

Since joining the Agency in January 2019 she has overseen the growth of the international rights department both in terms of deals done, revenue and staff. Now with two others on her team, she has ensured that the MM Agency’s international reach is one of the best in the world. Every one of our authors benefits from her passion, experience and professionalism, and it is – quite frankly – a joy to see her at work. The Bookseller recognized this, citing her ‘committed support’ to our authors, and her team’s success in growing international revenue.

Madeleine, shortlisted for Literary Agent of the Year, was commended by the Bookseller for a ‘best ever year for deals’ including – among others – record-breaking deals for Ashley Audrain and her debut The Push, and Elizabeth Kay’s Seven Lies. She also represents a whole host of authors who truly shone in 2019, reaching milestones in their sales figures and becoming regular fixtures of the bestseller charts in the UK, US and internationally.

Madeleine won Literary Agent of the Year in 2018, and was commended for her ‘prolific deal-making‘ and ‘long-term vision for her authors‘. She’s still at it in 2020, and beyond.

Holly Bourne also makes an appearance in this year’s shortlistees,  with Katarina Jovanovic of Usborne and freelance publicist Liz Scott nominated for their work on The Places I’ve Cried in Public.

We’re absolutely thrilled for both Liane-Louise and Madeleine, and are so proud to call them colleagues and friends.
