UK & Commonwealth rights to Jodie Chapman’s stunning debut novel, Another Life, have sold to Penguin Random House / Michael Joseph.

The love story was acquired by Jillian Taylor, Editorial Director at Michael Joseph, who was thrilled with the novel: “Another Life is a superbly written, beautifully observed account of young love, divided loyalties and the fierce ties of family. It is the kind of book you instantly want to press into the hands of everyone you know.”

Since its UK deal, Another Life has sold to Mondadori in Italy and Penguin Random House/Suma in Spain, and is currently at auction in Germany.

The novel follows the story of Nick, who falls in love with the passionate Anna…

Another Life tells the story of responsible 22 year-old Nick, who falls in love with passionate Anna (19) over the course of one hot summer. When Anna’s strict religion seeks to divide them, Nick is too scared to fight back and lets her go. Anna is drawn back into Nick’s life years later, and Nick must choose between finding his courage or forgetting about his one that got away.

Woven into this love story is also Nick’s tender, tragic relationship with his impulsive younger brother, Sal. We witness their coming-of-age through Nick’s eyes, as they navigate love, grief, and a tense relationship with their ex-army dad from the mid-1980s to the present day.

Jodie Chapman is a 35 year-old photographer living in Kent. In 2016, she was accepted on the Curtis Brown Creative novel writing course, where she started work on Another Life.
