HarperCollins has bought The Story of Thesaurus and a second title from author/illustrator Anya Glazer, marking further growth in the agency’s picture book list.

The book follows Thesaurus, a synonym-using dinosaur who has a guilty secret: he loves stories, cherishes books and adores reading. He tries to hide his passion from the other dinosaurs, who are much more interested in the generally accepted pastimes of eating, hunting and being scary. So what happens when they discover Thesaurus’s bibliophile behaviour?
Editor Mabel Hsu plans to publish the book in Summer 2020.
Anya has already proved to be hugely popular in the UK, following the September 2018 publication of her touching and funny debut Magical Pets (David Fickling Books), in which she gives instructions on how to care for magical and mystical beasts such as dragons and unicorns. She was Highly Commended for the Macmillan Prize in 2015, and prides herself on using pencil and digital methods in her work. She can often be found doodling dinosaurs, which is how The Story of Thesaurus came about, as well as other animals not yet extinct.
