Gail Honeyman has done it again after being crowned the bestselling book of 2018 at the Nielson Book Awards, and walking away with a Platinum Bestseller Award too, having sold more than a million copies in 2018.
Also being celebrated last night was the book’s seven non-consecutive weeks at the top of the UK charts in 2018.
On collecting her award, Gail said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to all of the library staff, booksellers and, of course, to all of the readers who have championed Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine over the last year or so. I’m very grateful, and I’m completely thrilled to be receiving this award.”
Since publication in 2017, the No. 1 bestselling novel of 2018 has spent 16 weeks as a No.1 Sunday Times bestseller, a jaw-dropping 64 weeks in the charts, and has sold 1.8 million copies in total.
Stateside, the book has spent 30 weeks in the top 5 of the New York Times bestseller list and multiple weeks at number 1.
This is yet another prize to add to Eleanor’s phenomenal repertoire – last year, Gail was nominated for no less than 19 prizes for the novel: the Costa First Novel Award, the Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards, the Readers’ Choice Award at the Books Are My Bag Awards 2018, the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Award, the Audio Production Awards, the Waverton Good Read Award, three prizes at the British Book Awards – Overall Book of the Year, Fiction Debut of the Year, and Marketing Strategy for the Year, and was longlisted for the Women’s Prize for Fiction.
