The official bestselling book of 2018 is still thriving in 2020, and has sold over 1 million paperbacks, or 1,134,009 to be precise. To put that into context, that’s just under 2,500 jumbo jets filled with passengers en route to their holidays all reading a copy of Eleanor Oliphant, no doubt the absolutely stunning summer edition:
Eleanor has previously spent a phenomenal 77 weeks in the New York Times bestseller list – showing that love for this quirky protagonist truly has reached all corners of the globe. That is just under a year and a half in the official US charts.
Last year, Eleanor Oliphant was shortlisted for the Comedy Women in Print Award, a prestigious award founded by award winning comedian, Helen Lederer.
This continued on from a stunning year in 2018 during which Gail was nominated for 19 prizes. She won the Costa First Novel Award 2017, the Popular Fiction Book of the Year at the Specsavers National Book Awards, the Readers’ Choice Award at the Books are My Bag Awards 2018, the Authors’ Club Best First Novel Novel Award, the Audio Production Awards, the Waverton Good Read Award, and three prizes at the British Book Awards – Overall Book of the Year, Fiction Debut Book of the Year and Marketing Strategy of the Year.
To date, Eleanor Oliphant has been sold into 44 territories and is a bestseller in Ireland, Australia, Italy, Portugal, Finland and France.
The adaption of Eleanor Oliphant is set to be produced by Reese Witherspoon’s company, Hello Sunshine, who will partner with production giant, MGM Studios. The script will be written by Liz Hannah, esteemed writer of the Stephen Spielberg film, The Post. Reese herself is said to want to star as Eleanor.
