Gail Honeyman‘s Eleanor Oliphant Is Completley Fine has had another fantastic run this week, ranking at No. 1 in the UK charts yet again.
The book, which very quickly won over huge numbers of readers including Reese Witherspoon, Jojo Moyes and Clare Mackintosh, has now amassed a following of over 1.4 million fans in the UK. That’s more than twice the population of Eleanor’s hometown of Glasgow. It has also been flying high in the US and Italy, sitting very comfortably in the upper echelons of the Italian charts, and at No. 4 in the US.
Back in the UK, this week Gail attended the Goldsboro Books Glass Bell Awards, which looks for a contemporary novel published that mixes ‘compelling storytelling with brilliant characterisation and a distinct voice that is confidently written and assuredly realised’. She was shortlisted along with John Boyne, Nathan Hill, Imran Mahmood, Ali Land and Laura Purcell. It was a perfect opportunity to celebrate the huge array of contemporary fiction out there, and Eleanor’s hugely deserved place right in the centre of it.
