Our wonderful Literary Agent Maddy Belton, who specialises in SFF and Romance, joins The Bookseller’s Rising Stars list for the Class of 2025!
The annual list celebrates the book industry’s up and comers, highlighting the importance of continuing to open the industry to diverse backgrounds.
Maddy joined the Madeleine Milburn Agency in September 2022, first as Chloe Seager‘s associate while building her list specialising in SFF and romance. She represents rising and notable authors including bestselling authors Lucy Jane Wood, Alexandra Christo and No.1 Sunday Times bestselling Maithree Wijesekara.
“The secret to agenting”, Maddy shares with The Bookseller, “is love, care and a lot of hustle. It’s hard to do this job if you don’t love it, care about it and if it doesn’t sometimes keep you awake at night.” Since joining the agency, Maddy has orchestrated a cascade of deals — a handful of six-figures and some much more — and built a roster of standout early-career authors such as Nadia El-Fassi, M. Stevenson, Amy Coombe and K L Kaine, whose books were sold at auction or in major pre-empts.
