Paul Baker is Professor of English Language at Lancaster University. He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences and the Royal Society of Arts in the UK. He has written over 25 books on a range of topics relating to language, media, society, identity and health. His 2019 book Fabulosa! The Story of Polari, the Secret Language of Gay Men was a Times Literary Supplement Book of the Year and his 2022 book Outrageous! on Section 28 was described by History: Reviews of New Books as ‘both powerful and shocking. It is a book that should be read by everyone’. He regularly gives talks libraries, universities, businesses and institutions, as well as radio interviews and podcasts.
